Dear Nicole, Summer is officially here! I'm so glad to be on Heidi Jo's summer challenge to help keep me motivated though out the season. Congratulations to all of you who are participating we're just about half way there. Interacting with the 2010 International Champions last week was phenomenal. Brandy and Kasper were truly inspiring and I think I'm still sore from their classes! You can view photos from the event on Facebook. Get ready for another wonderful opportunity, as Lynn Whitlow comes to town next week. Having one of our senior teachers visit so quickly after the champions keeps the momentum going. Lynn conducts a Master Class at BYPV and then a full Seminar in Tempe. Anthony is soon off to New York on his way to Amsterdam. His family lives in Phoenix, so he promised to visit often. We will look forward to his energy and that infectious laugh in the future! There are two new faces and voices leading you in yoga classes Deborah and Amy are home from Teacher Training. Congratulations, ladies! Happy Independence Day BYPV, with a regular class schedule in place all weekend. I hope you have a safe and happy holiday. Check out the video at the bottom for good laugh. With Love, Nicole

"Even though I enjoyed class on most days I struggled facing my demons as well as my reflection so I quit after 6 months, thinking that I would be better off in the gym. A year and a half later, my back and wrists were hurting me so I went back to the torture chamber. I was ready to be a student once again but this time showing myself some compassion and making peace within myself!" Marcia says Bikram Yoga is the "real deal" and she needs the intensity. "This yoga pushes me to my edge, just when I think I cannot go on, I do anyway and I don't even pass out, although I come close as the room gets quiet, dark and spins a little, what a rush!" Among the "500 things" Marcia says Bikram Yoga has done for her are decreasing stress and increasing happiness. "It's amazing how calm I feel and how deep I can breath just after a few postures." The yoga gives her a work out on the surface level, yet she realizes that she's "getting immediate healing on the inside." "I think that it is very exciting to know that every time I do yoga I am changing my cells from the inside out and to do it with a room full of people is amazing. I continue to get the healing benefits every time I take class and what excites me even more is the cumulative effect so no heart attacks or strokes for me which some of my family members have suffered. I'll take the tight buns and youth and be on my yogi way," says the Wyandotte, Michigan native. Marcia finds the Camel posture provides the most endorphins for her. "I wish we did this one a little longer so I could let go of a little more, hint, hint," she quips, "Standing bow is my favorite because it's so beautiful and challenging. I love the feeling of stretching, balancing and kicking all at the same time while trying not to fall out. I always love hearing 'It's not how many times you fall out that matters, it's how many times you get back in that counts'." I've used that one for my life too!" Now Marcia is learning even more about the healing aspects of Bikram Yoga. She tore her ACL and MCL while skiing last New Years Eve. "It was the most excruciating injury I had ever had. Two weeks later she hobbled into class frustrated and sad that she could complete only some standing and floor postures. "I had some major swelling and my knee felt numb so I was limping around feeling a little depressed, maybe even a side of self loathing. I was determined to put my faith into the yoga to heal my knee and put the surgery aside. I gradually regained stability and strength back in my knee with the encouragement and compassion of the wonderful instructors at BYPV, thanks a million!!! I am now very close to doing all of the postures again, the peace has been made within and most importantly I'm 98% pain free!!"
For the entire month of July, you can bring a friend FREE to the 8:15 pm class! Friends must be new students to BYPV, and are still eligible to take advantage of the $20 for first week after their first class!
There is no easy way out of the awkward series of postures. They will make you cringe, sweat, grunt, and maybe even curse but the fact of the matter is, awkward will deliver some of yoga's fastest results definition and strength is gained quickly with proper execution of awkward. So concentrate, meditate, breathe and muscle your way through it. Posture Benefits:
